About DON'S HOBBY SHOP

Don's Hobby Shop is a full service store and mail order company providing service to thousands of customers around the world. The store was founded by long time modeler and competitor Don Moden, who retired in 1995. Don is currently a Team JR member, our consultant and part time employee, and is active with the AMA.

Don and Judy Apostolico purchased the store when Don retired and have continued it's growth by enhancing inventory counts from 3500 to over 9000 different items. This variety gives the modeler a wide choice of products to choose from. In addition to carrying the standard items that most shops carry, Don's Hobby Shop has numerous items used on giant scale, pattern, IMAC, and big bird aircraft.

Founders and publishers of Gemstone Publications, Don and Judy's Pilot's Manuals have now sold in over 22 countries around the world. The manuals are based on Don's 25 years of competition flying, as well as teaching hundreds of people to fly. These R/C manuals have received many positive editorial comments from the modeling press.

No strangers to competition, Don and Judy travelled around the country competing in pattern for many years. In addition, Don was the recipient of the National Society of Radio Controlled Aerobatics Special Achievement Award,is a 4 time top 3 finisher at the United States National Championships, and has been the AMA Masters Pattern first place qualifier. Don has competed with his own pattern designs called the Diamond, Sapphire, and Topaz, and is currently fun flying a Carden Aircraft 35% Extra 300s. Judy soloed many years ago and still occasionally flies her Easy Fly .40 when time permits.

Authoring articles for the major modeling magazines on a variety of subjects. Don's writings include such topics as trick painting, light weight finishes for pattern airplanes, airbrushing, history of pattern airplanes, giant scale, product, and Field and Bench reviews.
